On 5th may 2014 Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology observed a Condolence meeting and Milad Mahfil at the loss of 6 students of the Dept of CSE in Saint Martin Island of Cox-Bazar on 14th April 2014.While celebrating the Pohela Baishak 9 students of Aust were swept away by the water of the sea.This tragedy raises a severe concern over security in the coastal areas.
The Program started at 3.30 pm in the Multipurpose Hall of the University Campus with the recitation from the Holly Quran. One student from the CSE Dept spoke first who was in the Saint Martin Island during the fatal incident. He gave a brief description of lives and activities of the deceased students.He also mentioned about the demonstration made by AUST students raising issue of life safety in the beach area of Cox-Bazar and around.He also requested their 12 points demand to be placed to the Govt for future safety of all concerned who visit the beach .Among the victims guardians, father of Saddam Hossain, paternal uncle of Shariar Islam and father of S.M Golam Rahim spoke on the occasion. They expressed their unbearable mental agonies at their loss and tried to draw the attention of concerned authorities to take necessary measures to prevent such accidents in future.They even said in their speeches that no parents may loose their children ever in such type of terrible accident like this due to the negligence of the local authorities.
After that Treasurer of the University Prof. Kazi Sariful Alam, Adviser of the University Prof. M.H.Khan, President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission and Chairman of University Board of Trustees Kazi Rafiqul Alam presented their valuable speeches at the loss of these lives.
At last Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah gave his condolence message. He paid his gratittude to the Coast Guard, Bangladeh Navy , DC, SP and ASP and the local people for their efforts to rescue the victim students. He also thanked the teachers of the CSE Department for going to the Saint Martin Island as soon as they heard the news and for their angagement in taking care of the students in rescue operation. He also appreciated the students who stayed back till last body was found and looked at their fellow mates.
They all deeply mourned and expressed their concern for this loss. They draw the attention of the authorities and emphasized to take necessary steps in order to prevent such miserable incident in future.
