Department of EEE organizes “Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah Memorial Lecture Series 3.0: Application of Industrial Automation and Industrial Digitalization in Bangladesh”


On January 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM, the Department of EEE – AUST organized the seminar of “Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah Memorial Lecture Series” with title “Application of Industrial Automation and Industrial Digitalization in Bangladesh”. This was organized at the VC Seminar Room of AUST in collaboration with AUST EEE Society, IEEE AUST Student Branch, IEEE AUST Student Branch WIE Affinity Group, IEEE SPS & IEEE ComSoc Joint SB Chapter, AUST, IEEE Power & Energy Society AUST SB Chapter. The Keynote Speaker of the session was Mr. Naasik Akkas, who is currently serving as Director of Engineering of SincoS Engineers Ltd.

This is the 3rd session of the lecture series that honors the memory of Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah, the former Head of the Department of EEE and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).

Vice Chancellor (in-charge) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman graced the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hamdur Rahman Khan (Registrar in-Charge, AUST), Prof. Dr. Tareq Aziz (Head of the Department of EEE), Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam (Counsellor of IEEE AUST Student Branch), Prof. Dr. Bobby Barua, Prof. Dr. Meganur Rhaman, Mr. Monjur Morshed, Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, Md. Jakaria Rahimi, Dr. Fakir Sharif Hossain, Dr. Taskin Jamal (Advisor, IEEE Power & Energy Society AUST Student Branch Chapter.), Mr. Hasib Md. Abid Bin Farid, Mr. Md. Adnan Quaium and other distinguished faculty members of AUST were present in the event. Along with the faculty members, more than 100 students attended the session. The seminar was hosted by Mr. Kazi Ramit Raihan (Secretary, IEEE AUST Student Branch).

A documentary video in honor of the memories of Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah was played at the event in order to humbly express the gratitude to his legacy and contribution to the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Ehtesanul Islam shared his his memories with Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah and admired the seminar arrangement. He eloquently shared insights into why this series is named after Professor Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah Memorial Lecture Series, shedding light on how Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah's leadership paved the way for the university to achieve its current standing.


Then the Honorable Chief Guest of the event Vice Chancellor (in-charge) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman was humbly requested to deliver his valuable speech. A token of gratitude was handed over to the Keynote Speaker Mr. Nassik Akkas by the Honorable Chief Guest of the event.

The guest speaker unraveled the intricate workings of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in an engrossing presentation that shed light on the complexities of industrial automation. The speaker emphasized that these devices are essentially sophisticated computers that use logic that has been programmed to control machinery. They are also capable of interpreting sensor data and guiding actuator movements. The presentation highlighted how PLCs and SCADA systems could improve industrial process efficiency and safety standards. He also mentioned their company’s automation ventures with Dhaka WASA, British American Tobacco (BAT) and many more renowned governmental and non-governmental organizations and companies. Overall, the seminar addressed the interests and concerns of the participants leaving them with a renewed sense of purpose and direction in their career. The event was concluded by an interactive question answer session followed by a concluding speech and vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Tareq Aziz.
