Seminar on Investing in a world of government policy mistakes and stagflation: The dilemmas for a western portfolio manager


A seminar titled "Investing in a world of government policy mistakes and stagflation: The dilemmas for a western portfolio manager" was held on July 24th, 2022 in the seminar hall of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fazli Ilahi, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, AUST; Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Hon'ble Pro Vice Chancellor, AUST; Prof. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Treasurer, AUST; Prof. Dr. Saleh Md. Mashehdul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences; Prof. Dr. S.M.A. Al-Mamun, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AUST; Prof. Dr. S.M. Shafiul Alam, Head, School of Business (SoB) and other faculty members of SoB as well as the business students attended the event. The keynote speaker was Dr. Mustafa Chowdhury. He is an independent consultant in Washington, DC. Formerly he was the managing director of VOYA Investments and Deutsche Bank and the faculty at Louisiana State University.  Dr. Chowdhury examined the reasons for the current unbridled inflation and imminent recession in the western economies. How it has so far impacted stock, bond, and foreign exchange portfolios. Furthermore, Dr. Chowdhury gave some ideas regarding the future directions of the global economy and asset markets. The Honorable Vice Chancellor actively contributed to the discussion by offering his insightful observations in the seminar. In the end, Prof. Dr. S.M. Shafiul Alam concluded the session by expressing his gratitude to all who were involved in organizing the session.
