"Pitha Utshab" celebrated at AUST


Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society of the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) organized a pitha utshab for celebrating the Pohela Falgun, the fist day of Spring, at its permanent campus at Tejgaon industrial area in Dhaka. The festival was held on 13 February, 2014. It was organized with a view to upholding the heritage of Bengali culture.

The festival was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. A.M.M. Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor of AUST as the Chief Guest. The utshab were well attended by Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. A.F.M. Anwarul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahim Mollah, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mr. M. Abul Hussain, Advisor of Students Welfare along with faculty members & students of different departments were present. Mr. Mahfujur Rashid, Associate Prof., Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering coordinated the whole program.

The aim of this festival is to inspire the young generation not to forget our traditional foodstuff and seasonal culture. Students and teachers of different departments of the university attended in the festival at Playground at AUST.

Altogether 16 stalls with more than 200 varieties of traditional pithas were exhibited in the festival. These are usually made in winter season across the country, were set up at the festival. The festival started at 3.30 and continued till 5.30 pm. To celebrate the festival, the whole ground was adorned with different adorable flowers, colorful paintings and festoons. The best stall will be awarded for their creativity in making various cakes as well as for their stall decoration.

Apart from the most common ones like Lokkhi Bilas, Buter Haluwa, Puding, Suji Pitha, Nadu Jora, Singri Pitha, Mango Cake, Gajorer Haluwa, Teler Pitha, Koli Pitha, Nakshi Pitha, bhapa, patishapta, Dud chitoi, Vaja Puli, Malpoa, Chitoi Shotki, Shondesh, Shirpuli, Sora, Zinok, and pakon, several unfamiliar pitha like Alosa, chandrapuli, mohonbhog, sareng, shaj pitha, shundori pakon, roshbora, golap, Tejpata, bibikhana and many more were on display.
